Humidifier Efficiency

The Honeywell HEV320B is a simple evaporative humidifier intended for use in small to medium-sized rooms, roughly 300 to 500 ft2. It sits near the bottom of Honeywell's humidifier hierarchy, below the Honeywell HUL430B and Honeywell HUL545W, and it lacks many of the latter's additional features. The HEV320B's bottom-filling tank has a usable capacity of 3.5 L (0.9 gal), enough for almost 24 hours of uninterrupted running.

Our Verdict

N/A Home

The Honeywell HEV320B is good for general home use. Its capacity is a little low, so you might want to purchase a second unit for especially large spaces. It also lacks a built-in humidistat, so it won't automatically shut off once the room you set it up in has reached the desired humidity level. On the upside, it's easy to clean and has a long enough runtime, so you won't have to worry about refilling the tank for an entire day.

Pros
  • Impressively easy to clean.

  • Low power draw.

Cons
  • Humidification capacity is on the lower end.

  • No humidistat or auto-off features.

N/A Bedroom

The Honeywell HEV320B is good for use in bedrooms. Its humidification capacity is a little on the low end, but ultimately, it will still efficiently humidify most average-sized bedrooms. However, it can get a little noisy at its highest fan speed, so you might want to leave it on its low-speed setting if you run it overnight. The HEV320B has no distractingly bright lights or displays on its front either. Unfortunately, the lack of an auto-off function does mean you can over-humidify your room if you leave it to run overnight.

Pros
  • Impressively easy to clean.

  • Low power draw.

  • Quiet at low fan speed.

Cons
  • No humidistat or auto-off features.

  • Noisy at higher fan speed settings.

N/A Cleaning

The Honeywell HEV320B is impressively easy to clean. Accessing the various components is pretty simple, and there aren't many tight spots where squeezing in a brush or washcloth is difficult. It also boasts a wicking filter to discourage mold growth and can accept antimicrobial water tank filters.

Pros
  • Impressively easy to clean.

Cons
N/A Capacity

The Honeywell HEV320B's humidification capacity is okay. It will struggle to operate efficiently in large open-concept spaces, but it's well suited to small- to medium-sized bedrooms and offices.

Pros
Cons
  • Humidification capacity is on the lower end.

N/A Humidifier Efficiency

The Honeywell HEV320B is quite efficient. While it consumes a little more energy than alternatives with similar or even higher humidification capacity, you still won't notice much of a hit to your energy bill, even if you run it frequently.

Pros
  • Low power draw.

Cons
  • N/A Home

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

This Honeywell humidifier is only available in two colorways: 'Black,' which is sold as the HEV320B, or 'White,' which is sold as the HEV320W. We tested the 'Black' model, and for those interested, here's the product label.

If you encounter another variant of this unit, let us know in the comments, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Humidifiers

The Honeywell HEV320B is a very simple evaporative cool mist humidifier. Compared to pricier models in Honeywell's lineup like the Honeywell HUL545W, it lacks additional features like an automatic off function and an essential oils tray. Its humidification capacity is not only lower than pricier stablemates but also some comparably-priced alternatives from other manufacturers, like the Vicks V3900. The HEV320B is also a little on the noisier end of the scale at higher fan speeds when compared to rivals. On the upside, it does have a very easy-to-clean design.

The Honeywell HEV320B is easy to clean. While none of its components are dishwasher-safe, there aren't that many to actually clean, and getting to them is pretty simple. There are few awkward tight spots, and cleaning out any grime or slime by hand or with a brush is simple for the most part. Just note that you'll need to hold the unit from the bottom when taking it apart, as the base comes off pretty easily and could spill out any water if you aren't careful.

The HEV320B can accept Honeywell's PC2V1 antimicrobial cartridges to minimize bacterial and mold growth inside its tank, which will last a month.

This unit's overall efficiency is impressive. It's best used in warmer, drier climates, where an evaporative unit can also cool the air in your home. However, if you use this unit frequently in colder areas, your heating system will have to work harder, increasing up your energy bill.
